The Essentials course is ideal for those practitioners who prefer a condensed course, whereas the Understanding course is for those who enjoy a more comprehensive discussion with extended clinical content.

The difference is in the amount of background information, pathophysiology and clinical application including the number of case studies that are included. The Understanding anaphylaxis course has 19 case studies whereas the Essentials has 5 cases studies.

Both courses cover the ASCIA Acute Management of Anaphylaxis Guidelines for Health Care Professionals which are the peak body guidelines as well as the 7 steps for managing anaphylaxis.

Participants will learn how to apply this knowledge to the diagnosis of anaphylaxis, differentiating it from simple allergic reactions and other differential diagnoses. The management of anaphylaxis is also thoroughly covered, including necessary equipment, and special considerations for children, pregnant patients, and cardiac arrests.

These courses consists of a 5-module PowerPoint presentation with narration, along with supporting resources including an Anaphylaxis Management Form.

The modules cover the foundations of anaphylaxis, including the current guidelines, triggers, and mediation processes. The course then delves into the pathophysiology, exploring the mediators of inflammation and the four pathological processes that result in the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis before discussing making a diagnosis and management. The final module is devoted to case studies. See samples videos below
